Yashica – some history

Yashima Seiki Co. -> Yashima Kogaku Seiki Co., otherwise known as Yashica … the company started by producing cameras based on the classic H&K design in 1953. The first TLR model was named the Pigeonflex … I don’t know what caused them to utilize such a name, but I would assume that there must be some significance with the word Pigeon in Japan. The Yashimaflex models followed, then Yashicaflex, Yashica, and eventually the Yashica Mat line. The last model (Yashica Mat-124B) was released in 1981.

Yashica also ventured into the 35mm camera types … too many to mention here, but I will mention one particular type, which is the Leica rangefinder. Yashica did not actually design one, they bought a company who did … then they made the Yashica YE and YF rangefinder cameras.
